Summer Reading Programs

We already have several programs scheduled for our 2010 Summer Reading Program, all with a distinctly nautical feel, in keeping with the summer reading theme ("Make a Splash: Read!")

Below you will find information about the programs and they will be added to our Summer Reading Calendar on the blog home page.

If you have any questions about programs, please email marthamack@tuckerfreelibrary.org or stop by.

Lobsters

On Thursday, July 1st at 1 pm we have a program sponsored by the University of New Hampshire Marine Docents on lobsters. In this dynamic program we will discover the life-cycles of lobsters, and the process of hatching lobsters. There will be lobsters at the library to touch and feel, and you will also learn how lobstermen measure and band lobsters for market. This program will be followed by a "lobster hat" craft activity.

Rocky Shore

The UNH Marine Docents will be returning to the library on Thursday, July 8th at 1pm for a program about marine animals who live on New Hampshire's coast. This program will provide an overview of the New England coast and all the creatures who call it home. You will have the opportunity to touch real life sea stars, green crabs, and sea urchins. The program will be followed by an interactive fish painting art activity (where you get to paint pictures using FISH). The Rocky Shore program runs approximately an hour and a half.

Let's Go Fishing

On Thursday, July 15th at 2 pm we will be offering the program "Let's Go Fishing" with help from the New Hampshire Fish and Wildlife Department. The two-hour long program will provide an overview on fish identification, basic equipment, casting, and fishing safety.

Everyone, from fledgling fishers to more those with more practice, is invited, however we will cap the class at 20, so we recommend registering early.
